2. The second mate on board is the full-time manager of charts and books, including electronic chart equipment and navigation instruments. Responsible for purchasing statistics, updates, amendments and applications. The second mate is responsible for safety problems and defects caused by charts and books (the captain is responsible for ships without second mate).

3. Apply for navigation books and materials

4. Apply for purchase regularly. Fill in the application form in advance according to the specific needs and information update, and report it to the company after being confirmed by the captain. The company will purchase and deliver the ship after approval according to the situation. The captain can also buy it himself.

In case of urgent purchase, you can apply for urgent purchase of the ship by any means. Report to the company afterwards.

6. The second mate/captain has the responsibility to apply for purchasing necessary charts and books in time.

7. In order to meet the safety requirements of MSA, it is suggested that the second mate/captain should use the charts and book catalogue (CNP203) published by MSA in a unified way. Try to avoid the use of charts published by two types of units at the same time (maritime edition and aviation insurance edition).

8. Books and materials management

9. The second officer should check regularly. They should be stored in different chart cabinets in sequence according to the chart, and marked outside for inspection and selection.

10. Before sailing, the second mate should put the charts needed for this voyage in the top drawer of the chart table for standby according to the navigation plan arranged by the captain.

1 1. The second mate shall establish a chart and information registration form, a navigation notice and warning registration form and a chart minor correction registration form.

12. The ship should be equipped with chart correction tools: 2B pencil and soft glue, gauge and compass, parallel ruler, triangular ruler and ruler, special pen for chart correction, paperweight, etc.

13. Ships should prepare necessary route maps, especially large-scale port maps. And correct it in time.

14. The second mate is responsible for downloading and updating electronic charts, and the captain and the second mate are responsible for the problems caused by over-reliance on unreupdated electronic charts.

15, correction of charts and books.

16. Operations such as routes and ship positions drawn on charts should not be erased immediately after arrival in Hong Kong, but before the next voyage.

17. The second mate should check whether there is any vacancy (correction notice), and record the date of receipt, the number of periods and the number of correction items related to charts in the Register of Receiving and Modifying Nautical Notice and the Register of Minor Correction of Charts respectively, and then make corrections one by one according to the needs of navigation and routes. After each calibration, the calibration year and notification number should be carefully marked at the secondary calibration in the lower left corner of the chart for future reference.

The calibration date is displayed on 18. The rectification notice related to this voyage must be completed before sailing.

19. Navigation warning (including radio broadcast): the driver on duty signs the navigation warning during the voyage. If the driver is in urgent need, he should correct it on the directly related chart, report it to the captain in time according to the situation, and take it as the handover content. Finally, the second mate corrected it on the relevant chart, registered the date, number and summary of the notice in the Register of Receiving and Changing Navigation Warnings, and wrote the corrected text on the notice. The captain and pilot must read and sign the navigation warning. Navigation warnings shall be classified and saved according to the numbering sequence of broadcasting units.

20. The second mate should read the instructions for using the electronic chart in detail or consult the manufacturer's technicians, and download and update the electronic chart in time. The data package can be downloaded from relevant websites. The downloaded data should be recorded for future reference and tracked and managed.
