Artistic experience

Wang Chuanbin has been obsessed with collecting and appreciating China ancient porcelain and wood products since he was in college, and devoted himself to the research and reproduction of Ming-style furniture in the next ten years. Now is the tenth year of making fine realistic sculptures.

His works are somewhat different from the common wood carvings we are familiar with. Rather than being called "woodcarving by new literati", his works wander in the expression of contemporary thinking and self-emotional catharsis, thus making his works highly recognizable and full of personality. In his view, ordinary wood carving often only uses wood as a medium, and it can also be stone carving or brick carving, rather than pure wood carving. For top wood carving, you only need to refine all the attributes of "wood" to the extreme, fully understand wood, the rational use of its texture structure, the extreme management of fiber toughness, the benefits of annual rings, buds, color difference, light and heavy oil content, and so on.

In order to get close to the top wood carving in his mind, for ten years, he stayed away from the noise and stayed in his studio, often working until the early hours of the morning. In Wang Chuanbin's works, he combines painting, design, literary play and literary accomplishment accumulated over the years. In addition, he received systematic and solid training in modeling ability during his college years, which made his works full of visual impact. In the process of carving, he is like walking a tightrope, constantly challenging the new vocabulary of carving. Through his subjective taste in everything, he presents a Zen style of oriental philosophy.

"The wind was blowing hard and the leaves in the yard rustled all over the floor. In the past, people's Qian Qian's grief was passed on to me. Every year at this time, I will carve leaves. Quite critical' means that another year has passed, and I want to keep my time in a solid form. "

"This year, I carved a leaf with an extremely ordinary shape. The leaves carved in previous years have a twisted and curly posture. This year, it seems unremarkable; But it pays attention to the rigid outline edge line and the hole that gives rhythm change, which is my painstaking arrangement; When I looked carefully under the lamp, its clear and subtle veins and meridians flashed, which touched me instantly. "

"This woodcarving scheme took about 70 days, but it took 108 to complete today. Repeated revisions, especially shoveling the meridians of leaves many times (actually, the shoveling is also very good, but I still feel that it has not achieved the most desired effect); The fluctuation of leaf surface, the change of leaf edge, the density of vein and the layout of moth-eaten holes all strive to change from concept to concept, so it is very brain-consuming. The length and thickness of the vein absorbs the effect of the ice crack, making it naturally appropriate and unobtrusive. It took a lot of thought and time. "

"I am slow to respond, have no agile skill and wise mind, and am used to indulging in one thing. I hate myself; See another way of life so moist, but mean to break free ... "

Wang Chuanbin completed a work, ranging from a few months to a year. In his works, people can feel his loneliness and pride, his strength in fighting against the surrounding environment, and his persistence in himself.

The life of the work was born from his hands, a journey to the world, or cherished and held hands; Or hidden in the cupboard, but pearls are pearls after all, and it is difficult to hide their light!
