Why is "literature, history and philosophy" called traditional humanities?
Liberal arts are usually divided into humanities (note, not "humanities") and social sciences, which has been recognized by academic circles. As far as subject content is concerned, liberal arts can be divided into "history" or "theory". The division of humanities and social sciences is of little significance to the study of "history" or "learning" because different "learning" is generally incommensurable unless it is a general history. However, for "theory" or "theory" research, it is extremely important to emphasize the division between humanities and social sciences. Humanistic theory belongs to the category of axiology, including humanistic philosophy and humanistic aesthetics. They all allow or even rely on the participation of subjective perception experience, and it is difficult or unnecessary to conduct empirical tests, so they cannot be justified. Social science belongs to the category of science. Besides sociology, economics, psychology, anthropology and law, it also includes philosophy and aesthetics of social science. They have the characteristics of unity of ontology, methodology, epistemology and practice, and need to be able to reveal objective truth and stand the empirical test.
