According to the article in Li 1927, the earliest full translator of Jane Eyre, translator Wu Guangjian abridged part of Jane Eyre from the English version and named it "A Lonely Girl Wandering". This should be the earliest Chinese translation of this novel, but it was not published by the Commercial Press until eight years later. Previously, the translator Li translated the complete works of this book in 1933 and submitted it to Zhonghua Book Company for the first time, but it was rejected. It was published in Universal Library hosted by Zheng Zhenduo on 1935 and published by Shanghai Life Bookstore the following year.

According to the National Library of the United States, this book is titled "The Autobiography of Jane Eyre" and the author signed it as "C. Brandy", which became the earliest fully translated solo book. Later, the translation was renamed Jane Eyre. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was published successively by Shanghai Cultural Life and New Literature and Art Publishing House as 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1962, and the author's signature became "Bronte". After the Cultural Revolution, Shaanxi People's Publishing House and Yuelu Bookstore reprinted this book in 1982 and 1994 respectively. It has a great influence on early readers. However, in recent years, some scholars have pointed out that due to the environment in China in 1930s, there are many trans-generational translations in Li's translation, which will inevitably make today's readers feel uncomfortable.
