Leshan Teachers College is a provincial undergraduate normal college. It was founded in 1978 and 1982 with the approval of the State Education Commission. It was renamed Leshan Teachers College in 1993 and merged with Leshan Education College with the approval of the Ministry of Education in March 2000.
The college is located in Leshan, a famous historical and cultural city where the world natural and cultural heritage is located. Leshan, called history in ancient times, originated in the Han Dynasty and has a long history. Leshan meets three rivers, with green mountains and green waters and beautiful mountains and rivers. Since ancient times, there has been a reputation that the world is in Shu, and Shu is better than history. Leshan, an excellent place, is rich in historical and cultural heritage. Sanjiang nurtured Su Dongpo and gave birth to a generation of writer Guo Moruo. The green mountains and green waters also nourished literati and poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Lu You and Cen Can, leaving many well-known masterpieces. Leshan has convenient transportation, and railways and expressways are connected with Chengdu, which is only an hour's drive. The College is located in the west of Leshan City, near the Dadu River, facing the world-famous Leshan Giant Buddha across the river in the east, facing Emei Mountain, one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China in the west, and adjacent to Leshan City Forest Park in the north. During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Wuhan University had been in its present campus for eight years, and a large number of well-known scholars such as Chen, Zhu Guangqian and Ye Shengtao also gave lectures here. At present, the college has newly acquired more than 400 mu of land next to Leshan City Forest Park, plus more than 300 mu of old areas, with a total area of 735 mu. The college will strive to build a new campus in about two years according to the requirements of high standard, high taste, high quality and fast pace. The new campus college will build more than 6,543,800 square meters of buildings: modern library and information building, teaching building, standardized sports venues, music and art building with artistic characteristics, fully functional experimental building, and student apartments, canteens and supermarkets with more reasonable structures and more suitable for life. Two years later, the new campus will be an ecological campus with towering trees and flowers.
Since the establishment of the college, especially since the reform and opening up, after more than 20 years of struggle, the construction and development of the college has made remarkable achievements. The building area of the college teaching building is 2 1.72 million square meters, the total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 30.57 million yuan, the library has 7 1.55 million books, all kinds of teaching and experimental facilities, cultural and sports facilities are complete, and the student dormitory is equipped with color TV and telephone.
In recent years, the college attaches great importance to the popularization and application of modern educational technology. The campus computer network was completed and put into use in September, 1999, and has been connected with China Education Network. There are more than 30 multimedia computer CAI and CAD classrooms, 7 free Internet access points for teachers and students, and more than 2,300 computers for students. It has advanced language laboratories and various basic laboratories. The modern educational technology reform based on computer network technology in our college is at the forefront of similar universities in the province. Gigabit campus computer network connected to the Internet in our college has been widely used in education, teaching, management, service and other fields.
The college has a complete set of specialties and has become an important institution for training teachers and economic construction talents. The college has 12 teaching departments and an adult education college. There are 24 normal majors such as Chinese, ideology and politics, English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, fine arts, sports, music, computer and education, and 22 non-normal majors such as psychology, secretarial, tourism management, information and computing science, electronic information engineering, business administration, marketing, law and Japanese. There are 23 undergraduate majors and 23 junior college majors. The college enrolls students nationwide, with 7,734 undergraduate and junior college students, including 6,092 undergraduates. There are more than 9,500 adult education students.
