How much does it cost to publish a book?
Before contacting publishers and editors, simply analyze the market value of your works. Some books have high quality, wide readership and worry-free sales. These books are generally welcomed by publishers, and the publishing process will be relatively smooth. At the same time, the author can get corresponding remuneration while publishing his own works.

There are generally two kinds of remuneration. One is writing remuneration, that is, paying remuneration according to the number of words in the work. For example, a book has 200,000 words, with 50 yuan per thousand words, so the total remuneration is 20 (ten thousand words) × 10×50 yuan = 10000 yuan; The other is royalties. The royalty rate of general books is 6% ~ 9%, which is related to the pricing and sales of books. For example, if a book is priced in 20 yuan and actually sells 5,000 copies, and the royalty rate is 8%, then the author's royalty is 20 yuan × 8% × 5,000 copies = 8,000 yuan. No matter how the author obtains the remuneration, he must deduct the corresponding personal income tax, that is, = (remuneration-basic tax exemption) ×20%, but there are always some reasonable tax avoidance measures.

In the second case, some books are profound and professional, with a narrow audience and poor market expectations. Most publishers of such books will ask the authors to provide some financial support. Because publishing a book also requires certain costs, such as printing fees, reading fees, typesetting fees and so on. The amount of funds is related to the content of the book, the number of words, the number of prints, the use of paper, the design of binding and layout, and the communication with publishers and editors.

By the way, the book number (ISBN) can be said to be the ID card of the book, with which the book can be published. According to the regulations of the relevant state departments, it is strictly forbidden to buy and sell ISBN, but many remote areas and weak publishing houses make a living by selling ISBN. The last situation is somewhere in between, that is, the book market is uncertain, and it is difficult for authors and editors to judge the market prospect of the upcoming works. Here, we can share the risks and benefits of both parties, that is, the author provides part of the funding and the publishing house also bears part of the market risks. For example, the total publishing cost is 30,000 yuan, the author contributes10.5 million yuan, and the other half is borne by the publishing house.
