Quality Requirements of National Book Awards
The National Book Award not only pays attention to the quality of book content, but also pays special attention to the editing and proofreading quality and printing quality of books. In this regard, we also have strict procedures to ensure that the winning books should be qualified books. First of all, when submitting the participating books, we require the publishing unit to attach a proofreading quality checklist, indicating the error rate of the participating books, and unqualified books cannot participate in the evaluation; Secondly, while publishing the selected books in the initial evaluation to the public, we will begin to check the quality of the selected books. The inspection is divided into two steps. Step 1, the competent department of the publishing house organizes personnel to inspect the shortlisted books of the publishing house and report the inspection results; In the second step, the awarding office will organize quality inspectors to check the shortlisted books. We will resolutely disqualify the books that fail the above inspection. In the fifth awards, we * * * cancelled the qualification of 20 books that failed to pass the examination and editing. The "one-vote veto system" implemented here, no matter how high the academic status of the author is or how rich the content of the book is, as long as the editing and proofreading quality is unqualified, the qualification for participating in the competition will be cancelled. This lesson is very painful in our awards. In the fourth awards, a monograph on economic history, which is generally favored by the judges and may win the national book award, was written by a famous economist in China. It is precisely because the editing and proofreading quality is unqualified that the judges all sighed. At this time, the publishing house really realized the pain of not paying attention to the quality of editing and proofreading. Another publishing house re-applied for the National Book Award after reprinting all books due to quality problems. It reflects the strictness and orientation of the awards.
