No Weinan Technician College was founded in 1978, and Weinan Institute of Technology was founded in 1996. In 2002, it was upgraded to a senior technical college by the Ministry of Labor. In the same year, it was renamed Weinan Technician College and National Key Technical College with the approval of Shaanxi Province. Weinan Vocational and Technical College was approved by Shaanxi Provincial People's Government in 2004 and put on record by the Ministry of Education. It is formed by the merger of Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine School, Shaanxi Dali Normal School, Shaanxi Pucheng Normal School and Shaanxi Weinan Agricultural School. Weinan Municipal People's Government is the only full-time public institution of higher learning.
