Typical Chaoshan costumes that can reflect the national characteristics of Chaoshan, men wear double-breasted jackets, medium-long double-breasted jackets, straight-breasted cotton-padded jackets and fur jackets as uniforms. The double-breasted jacket has a simple structure: double-breasted, with narrow upper part and wide lower part, no collar or shallow collar, long sleeves and narrow mouth; The bottoms are represented by big crotch pants, which are simple in shape and unified in style. Pants and cuffs should be folded inward and connected with the lining, and the color is generally blue, gray and black. Women's clothes are more distinctive. The most common coats are big-breasted shirts, big-breasted shirts, right lapels, high stand-up collars and exquisite cloth buttons. The length is based on the principle of "walking without revealing buttocks and sitting without revealing stocks". The bottoms are also big crotch pants with few skirts, and the colors are Shang Qing, blue and black; I like to comb my hair in a high bun, wrap it in a handkerchief and insert gold, silver and copper hairpin. I don't usually bind my feet. I have a pair of feet. I climb up and down the mountain like a fly. This kind of dress is quite different from that of the Central Plains people in the Tang and Song Dynasties, but it is similar to that of the She nationality. Obviously, it has been influenced by the She nationality and absorbed the beneficial nutrients of the clothing culture of the She nationality in the long-term communication with the She nationality.
As for women's hair bun, a Chaoshan scholar who lives in Chaoshan area for a long time described it this way: "In the past, many women's hair braids in Chaoshan were coiled into a high bun, like a canoe, called boat bun. Tied with a red rope and inserted with a silver hairpin. A cool hat can be placed on the bun, with the end of the bun exposed and leaning forward, and a five-inch long colorful cloth hanging around the bun with a breeze. " (1) the hair into a high bun, tied with red rope, like a canoe, this is the so-called "vertebral bun"; "A cool hat can be put on the bun", and the brim of the hat should be decorated with colorful strips of cloth, which is called "wearing a bamboo crown to cover the cloth and decorating it with a garland". In contrast, the consistency between the two is really obvious.
Regarding women's wear, this Chaoshan scholar described it this way: "Chaoshan women wear cardigans on the right side, with lace around the right edge and tail of the shirt, which is one inch wide." The trouser head is wide, the crotch is deep, and the trouser leg is decorated with lace; Wearing cloth shoes, the upper is made of two pieces of colored cloth, and the toe is slightly upturned, which looks like a boat. It is embroidered with colorful flowers, wearing an apron and a silver necklace. The skirt is in a convex shape, with flowers or patterns embroidered on the upper part, and so on. On holidays or when visiting relatives and friends, she wears a silver collar around her neck and a silver bracelet on her wrist, dressed like a She woman. (2) In terms of the color of clothes, until a few decades ago, Chaoshan people especially liked a kind of cloth called Yindan Stone Forest, whose color belongs to the range of blue and green. Obviously, this dressing of Chaoshan women is also influenced by the She nationality, or it can be said that it is learned from the She women.
