As the name implies, Christopher Schipper has been devoted to the study of China culture for a long time. He has a profound knowledge of Sinology, and is famous in the international sinology circle for his study of Taoism in China. At the same time, he has made great achievements in the research fields of China's ancient ideological history, cultural history and religious anthropology. He has published dozens of works, such as Tao Ti, Collected Taoist Scriptures and China Cultural Gene Bank, which enjoys a high reputation in the international sinology field. After years of painstaking research, Professor Shi has accumulated rich achievements in sinology research and won many academic honors. He has served as director of the Institute of Sinology of the French Academy of Sciences, dean of the School of Sinology of Leiden University in the Netherlands, and academician of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.

It is this attraction from China culture that has been leading the life of Christopher Schipper. Christopher Schipper was attracted by China art when he was young. After studying classical Latin and Greek in Amsterdam, he went to Paris University to study Chinese, Japanese, Far East art history and religious anthropology. Later, he studied the history and culture of China under the famous French sinologist Professor MaxKaltenmark. 1962, Professor Shi came to Taiwan Province Province, China as a visiting scholar just after receiving his doctorate. 1972 was employed by the French Institute for Advanced Studies to teach the religious history of China. Sinology research can be partly immersed in classicism, but it is essential to study China at present. He also believes that the study of China in Europe can only be understood in the context of determining its own identity in Europe.
As the curator of Duke Auguste's Library, Hanwei Shi is in charge of this huge and ancient library in Europe. In his view, the study of China by European scholars is, in the final analysis, the study of China by Europeans, because Sinology is the humanities and cultural science in Europe. Studying the world, mankind and history also includes studying the cultures of other nationalities. Europeans' interest in China has a long history, and the climax of this interest has been constantly appearing since16th century. It is important to reflect on this phenomenon because it involves subjective perception rather than objective science. And this kind of cognition is constantly changing, just like China's understanding of the world is not static. In May 2009, Shi's new book Richness, Happiness and Longevity was published in Surkamp's World Religion Publishing House. God and order in China. The main content of this book involves China people's imagination and understanding of God's world and human destiny. In the Analects of Confucius, there is a saying that "Zi does not talk about strangeness, strength, chaos and spirit". And "how do you know death when you are unknown?" For example, Hanwei Shi himself said that he wanted to explore how China people organize their own happiness in this world. God has always played an important role in the pursuit of happiness. The book also discusses various social relations, the worship of God and whether God has the right to decide rulers. On the latter point, the situation in China is different from that in Europe, where gods have no influence on rulers. The readers of this book are those who are interested in China, and of course those who explore the characteristics of European culture itself, because these characteristics can be better understood by comparing with China.
