The trilogy focuses on 1939 to 1942 the life struggle of working people in Algeria's urban and rural areas. Its main characters are Omar, who was born in poverty, first the urban poor and later became a worker, and Hamid, a professional revolutionary. The trilogy basically summarizes the social reality of Algeria before and after the Second World War, describes the life picture of the urban poor, rural farmers and proletariat in Algeria, and describes the development and growth of Algeria's national independent revolutionary movement. In the trilogy, the author puts forward the position that farmers should occupy in Algeria's national democratic revolution. He wants to explain that Algerian farmers are the main force of the revolution, and solving the problem of farmers' land is a major key issue in Algeria's national democratic revolution.
Of course, the trilogy only describes the early stage of Algeria's national democratic revolution, and does not directly describe the peasants' participation in the national liberation war, but it can be predicted that this great force will be thrown into the revolutionary steel torrent. Therefore, we can assert that although the trilogy does not show Algeria's armed struggle positively, its artistic image has eloquently explained the inevitability of revolution, and the stage of revolutionary armed struggle will inevitably come sooner or later, which is the prelude to Algeria's armed struggle.
