Robert stevenson (1850- 1894) is a Scottish essayist, poet, novelist, travel writer and a representative of neo-romanticism. Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and studied at the University of Edinburgh in his early years. He has been fond of literature since he was a student. He was ill all his life, but full of creativity. Stevenson's works are rich in themes and ingenious in conception, and his adventure novels and thrillers are full of originality and dramatic power. His masterpieces include Treasure Island, Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and Abduction, and Stevenson gained great popularity among readers. Ordinary readers don't know his identity as a poet. After his death, he has long been regarded as an essayist imitating other people's styles and the author of children's books and popular books. It was not until 1950s that he was praised as an original and talented writer by people of insight.
