Books are duty-free.

According to China's tax law, books purchased by individuals are exempt from value-added tax and consumption tax. According to the Provisional Regulations of People's Republic of China (PRC) on Value-added Tax and the Consumption Tax Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), books purchased by individuals do not belong to the scope of value-added tax and consumption tax. Therefore, individuals do not need to pay personal income tax when purchasing books.
