Reading rooms are generally used by researchers in large libraries, and readers need to provide passports and degree certificates; Get a reader's card and use the reading room for free.

The reading room of the Department of Printed Music and Recording is used by registered readers of the Russian National Library, and young people under 16 have other reading rooms elsewhere. The books in the reading and listening department can only be collected in the reading room, and the use of ancient and rare materials is restricted. As reference library staff provide necessary assistance, only professional groups can make electrostatic, remake or microform copies of printed music scores and transcribe recorded materials, and all copying services are charged.

The newspaper reading room, with 45 seats, is open to users who hold the reader card of the Russian National Library every day except public holidays and the last Tuesday of each month. Readers in the science reading room can use all the books in the department, while unregistered visitors can only read the latest central and Petersburg newspapers at hand. Some newspapers are in critical condition, but new newspapers will meet the requirements soon. But each reader can only ask for 5 volumes at a time, and no more than 20 volumes a day. Newspapers are not lent out, but only for reading in the reading room. In terms of bibliography, we provide reference services on 5000 topics every year to help readers according to their needs. The editing of subject catalogue is to monitor the central and local newspapers at any time to meet the requirements of different groups. Some reference databases and new publications are services for specific topics. Unbound newspapers in recent 1-2 years can be reproduced in the reading room, and the rest newspapers can be reproduced or microfilmed through the foreign service department of the Russian National Library according to users' requirements.

Besides exhibitions, lectures and conferences, the National Library also holds concerts and meets actors. The "Audiovisual Opera" center performs classical and modern opera fragments. This is announced in the "Speech and Public Activities Plan" published by the Russian National Library every month. The tour guide mainly introduces the history, organization and collection of the museum.
