Shanghai Library, located in Huaihai Middle Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, is a comprehensive research-oriented public library and industry information center in Shanghai. It is also the Shanghai Branch of the National Cultural Information Resource Sharing Project and the public cultural research base of the Ministry of Culture. It is the first batch of national key ancient books protection units. [ 1][2]

Shanghai Library was founded in 1952, Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology Information was founded in 1958, Shanghai Library and Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology Information merged in 1995, and the new Shanghai Library was officially opened to the public in1996+February. [ 1]

By the end of 20 15, Shanghai Library had a building area of127,000 square meters, 36 reading rooms of various types, 24 institutional departments and 75/kloc-0 employees. There are more than 56 million kinds of Chinese and foreign documents in the library, [1] of which there are about 1.7 million kinds of ancient books in China and 25,000 kinds of rare books 1.7 million kinds, which belong to the national first-class and second-class collections of 2,256 kinds 1.3526 kinds.
