Where is the ginkgo tree in the National Library?

On the south side of the library and the north bank of the river, there is an ancient ginkgo tree.

On the west side of the main building of Beijing National Library, there are two tall ginkgo trees, which were planted in Yuan Dynasty. They have a history of over 700 years. This is the site of Zhenguo Temple, which was built by Kublai Khan in the Yuan Dynasty in AD 7 (1270). Today, only these two ancient trees have been preserved.

Two ginkgo trees are lush, and young trees are transplanted to the side and thrive. Coupled with the old trees and young trees, although not as magnificent as Ginkgo Avenue, it contains an elegant charm, adding a touch of bright color to the autumn of the National Library.

The ginkgo trees here in Haidian National Library are often the beautiful scenery that only people who come to the National Library to read books know. There are two towering ginkgo trees on the west side of the old main building. Looking at the historical changes of this land, they have not moved for 700 years. Because there are only two plants, there is no grandeur of Ginkgo Avenue, but there is an elegant charm in it.

The history of ancient ginkgo trees

There is little exact information about these two ancient ginkgo trees, and most of them are inferred by cultural relics workers according to historical materials. Generally speaking, there are two opinions: one is that it is the site of Wang Ren Temple in Yuan Dynasty; One is the site of Zhenguo Temple in Yuan Dynasty.

The book Tracing the Historic Sites in Jinghua published by Yanshan Publishing House 1996 reprinted the article Textual Research on the New Site of Beijing Library by Mr. Shi Shuqing. This paper quotes a large number of documents, records the whole story of Tiger King Temple in detail, and researches the new site of today's National Library, namely the site of Tiger King Temple in Yuan Dynasty, which is located in the northwest of Baishiqiao.

The Zhenguo Temple, built in the seventh year of Kublai Khan in Yuan Shizu (1270), also flourished in the middle and late Yuan Dynasty. But it was destroyed during the Qianlong period. It seems to be in the south of Beijing Library today, on the north bank of the river, where there are today's ancient ginkgo trees.

If they are old things from the Yuan Dynasty, these two trees have a history of more than 700 years, but judging from the circumference of the trees, they don't seem so old.
