The University of Coimbra is managed by the President, the Senate and the Parliament, which is responsible for the election of the President and members of the Senate. The president and the Senate are mainly responsible for the strategic direction and overall management of the university, while the Senate is assisted by the executive Committee. Coimbra University is divided into eight different departments (Faculty of Arts, Law School, Medical College, Science and Technology College, Pharmacy College, Economics College, Pedagogy and Psychology College and Physical Education College), with a total of about 25,000 students. In all departments of Coimbra University, the College of Science and Technology (FCTUC) has the largest number of professors and students, the largest number of degrees awarded, and the largest number of classrooms and research places. The University of Coimbra has the National Institute of Law and the Affiliated Hospital of coimbra Medical College (HUC). University of Coimbra has a large central library of University of Coimbra, University of Coimbra Botanical Garden, University of Coimbra Gymnasium and other sports venues (Holy Cross Gymnasium), planetarium, publishing house, San Miguel Church, Gil Vincent College Theatre, and numerous canteens and learning places.
