Shengzhou is known as "the most beautiful mountains and rivers in the southeast, and the national scenery is in the forefront". Wang Xizhi, a "book saint", loved mountains and rivers and lived in seclusion in the Golden Pavilion in his later years. Scholars such as Xie Lingyun, Li Bai, Du Fu, Zhu, Lu You and others visited Shengzhou many times, leaving many excellent sentences and works. Shengzhou is also the hometown of Ma Yinchu, a famous economist, educator and population theorist, Yuan Xuefen, a revolutionary musician and performing artist of Yue Opera, Liu Wenxi, founder of Loess Painting School, and Ma, the national player of Weiqi.
