Back to the question, why are there empty nesters? I think the reasons are totally different for different types of empty nesters. For example, people who take the initiative to become empty nesters, most of them have social barriers or prefer a person's life and yearn for independence, instead of always being under the umbrella of their parents. Compared with the strict discipline of parents and relatives and the irreducible intergenerational contradictions, living alone has become the best choice. Even if the living conditions are far worse than at home, they can still feel happy.
Those who are forced to become empty nesters come from objective and inevitable reasons, such as the pressure of working economy. After all, young people who have just come to a big city to work hard have no financial strength to buy a house or a car, and their parents will be dragged to the side, so they can only live in a small rented house and bear the pain they may have to experience when they grow up. Moreover, even if they can afford to buy a house in a big city, parents who are far away from home are reluctant to leave home to live with their children. So many young people who work hard outside can only live alone all the time and can't get rid of the status quo of empty nesters for a long time.
Speaking of myself, why should I live alone? There is both subjective will and objective helplessness. First of all, because I lived with my parents since I was a child, I lacked the ability to live independently. In addition, campus life has always been a collective life. Instead, I want to have my own private space after economic independence and be able to control my own pace of life, so I actively choose to be a member of the empty nest youth. Secondly, even in the process of becoming an empty-nest youth, I feel the heavy pressure of life. It is unrealistic to want to buy a house and live with my parents, because I can barely pay the rent and living expenses every month. Therefore, for a long time to come, whether you like it or not, you have to continue to be an empty nester. It can be seen that the phenomenon of empty nest youth is complicated and closely related to social development, population balance and urbanization.
