How to record network documents

At present, there are two views on the description of network literature.

The first viewpoint advocates using MARC and document description rules to describe online documents. Many people in the library field advocate using MARC format to describe network information resources. The reasons are: (1) standard information exchange format; (2) Different description levels are applicable; (3) Flexible presentation format; (4) multiple search points; (5) Complete bibliographic description;

(6) Being able to integrate different resources into one directory, which is convenient for readers to retrieve different information resources from one directory; (7) The library has the obligation to catalog the network resources so that readers can search and use the network resources of the library. (8) It can be best compatible with the existing bibliographic database.

The second viewpoint advocates using metadata to describe network documents and revealing network information resources. Metadata standard is used to describe the characteristics of the first-level information on the Internet, and compress its content, so that the first-level information on the Internet can enter the second-level information, realize the control of the first-level information on the Internet, and logically sort and optimize the network information resources.

Metadata is usually defined as data, which contains a set of data elements that describe the content and location of information objects. The original meaning and function of metadata is descriptive data describing literature information resources, which can also be said to be an electronic catalogue.

Using MARC and document description rules and using metadata to reveal online resources have their own advantages and disadvantages, and cannot replace each other. These two methods will exist for a certain period of time.

The description format of the network document is as follows: [serial number] principal, network document name [network document type ID /ol] ... website, reference date and update frequency.

Among them, take ... as an example:

(a) the description format of online books is:

【 Serial number 】 Principal responsible person. Version of online book name [m/ol]: publisher, online publication date/printing publication date, website address, citation date and update frequency.

(two) the description format of online journal papers is:

【 Serial number 】 Principal responsible person. File name [J/OL]. Journal name, year of online publication, volume (issue)/year of printing publication, volume (issue). Website, reference date. Update frequency.

(3) The description format of online newspapers is:

[serial number] Principal. File name [n/ol]. Newspaper name, online publication date (edition)/printing publication date (edition). Website, reference date. Update frequency.

(d) The description format of online patent is:
