What does the delusion in Summer Flowers mean?
This is a prose poem, published in the Danish Popular Yearbook published in Copenhagen in 1863. About this work, Andersen said, "It was written at the request of my friend State Councilor Drewsen. He likes Danish anecdotes and correct Danish. One day he complained that many lovely old nouns were often distorted and abused. When we were young, we liked to call it a' summer fool' flower-because it imagined that spring was coming, but the owner of the flower bed called it a' winter fool' when he advertised in the newspaper. He asked me to write a fairy tale to restore the original name of this flower, so I wrote this song "Summer Fool". Here, Andersen only restored the flower name, but the content was completely created by Andersen himself. It explains the relationship between flowers and poems and the fate of those who create poems. This also shows that Andersen can get inspiration for writing fairy tales from anything.
