Design of Library Management System
8. Analysis, design and implementation of university library management information system.

A university library has more than 2 million books, with more than 20,000 readers including students and faculty, and the daily borrowing volume is nearly 10,000 books. In the manual operation mode, the cataloging and borrowing of books has a large workload, low accuracy and is not easy to modify and maintain. When borrowing books, readers can only go to the library to find the bibliography manually, which can't meet the borrowing needs. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a book management information system to realize the information management of readers' borrowing, purchasing and warehousing, and to realize the electronic retrieval and reading of documents.

The library is in charge of the overall work by the curator, and consists of office, technology department, information consulting department, document construction department, circulation department and reading department. The main functions of each department are:

(1) Office: responsible for the administration and general affairs of the library.

(2) Technology Department: responsible for the development and maintenance of library computer system and the management of multifunctional electronic reading room, multimedia production room and audio-visual room.

(3) Information Consulting Department: responsible for international online retrieval, CD-ROM retrieval, manual retrieval and resource sharing.

(4) Document Construction Department: responsible for purchasing, cataloguing and collecting books, periodicals and electronic documents.

(5) Circulation Department: responsible for the circulation of books.

(6) Reading room: responsible for the management of each reading room.

The main function and business processes to be realize by that library management system are as follows:

(1) reader information management. Readers are divided into two categories: student readers and teacher readers. Readers will check their accounts and passwords when accessing the system, and only readers with legal status are allowed to enter the system. Reader information includes reader type information, reader borrowing information, reader reservation information, reader boutique information, etc.

(2) Bibliographic inquiry. After readers enter the book management system, they can retrieve titles or periodicals as needed. The search criteria can be book title, book number, author's name or keywords, etc. If the query information is not accurate, you can also make a fuzzy query.

(3) Book editing. Relevant personnel of the Ministry of Literature Construction regularly purchase books according to readers' needs and book publishing. After cataloging and other processing, the book catalogue is stored in the database and provided to readers for reference. Catalogue information includes book number, book category, title, author, publishing house, pricing, publication date, quantity, etc.

(4) Book borrowing. Can handle the procedures of borrowing, returning and renewing books for readers. After readers find the books they need, they go to the library to borrow them. The borrowing period is 60 days, and they can renew it once after the expiration of the borrowing period, and the renewal period is 30 days. Before going through the borrowing formalities, we should first check whether the books borrowed by readers are excessive. If they are excessive, you can't handle them. Student readers can borrow at most 10 books, and staff readers can borrow at most 15 books. Readers should first check whether the book is overdue when returning it, and if it is overdue, they will enter the fine procedure.

(5) booking. After the reader retrieves the required books, if all the books have been lent out, he can make a book reservation. When the book is returned, they can notify the reserved readers to go through the borrowing procedures, and the book can be kept for three days for the reserved readers. If the reader fails to go through the borrowing formalities within three days, the reservation qualification will be cancelled.

(6) Electronic reading management. E-book management deals with the reading, retrieval and downloading of e-books.

(7) System maintenance. Provide librarians with statistical information of books and readers, so that they can master the overall situation of library operation from a macro perspective.
