The predecessor of Jilin Provincial Library was established in the year of Tong Yuan (A.D. 1909). Located in the present Jilin City, where Jilin Province was located at that time, it experienced the period of the Republic of China and the period of the Puppet Manchukuo. After the founding of New China, the capital of Jilin Province was moved to Changchun in 1954, and a new museum was built in Changchun in 1957.
