Xiangtan University was founded by Chairman Mao himself, inscribed with his name and kindly entrusted to run well. During its establishment, it received strong support from universities all over the country, and universities in various provinces and cities all over the country actively donated books. Peking University Library proposed that if there are more than two sets of books and materials, one set can be given to Xiangtan University. Among the books presented by Peking University, there are 23,069 precious ancient books, such as The Collection of Ancient and Modern Books of King James and The Four Great Series. Among them, The Collection of Ancient and Modern Books is a bronze movable type book from Kangxi to Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty. The book is divided into 6 volumes and 32 classics, 6 1 17, which is the largest book in the world and the largest book in the history of copper movable type printing in China. Only the Hunan University Library has a complete set of ancient and modern books, which has become the "King's Collection of Ancient and Modern Books" of Hunan University Library.

The library is rich in electronic resources, with 72 databases, including 22 databases built by Hunan University Digital Library. 7 self-built databases, including Mao Zedong Digital Library and Red Tourism Resources Database. Among them, there are 6.5438+0.202 million kinds of e-books, more than 2.88 million master's and doctoral dissertations, and 63,000 kinds of electronic periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages. It has a special Mao Zedong research literature library and a Hunan adult library. Yongzheng copperplate movable-type edition "The Collection of Ancient and Modern Books", with 528 copies, 6 1 17, is a rare book in China. There are also precious ancient books such as the first edition, the second edition, the third edition, the four collections, and the four-library encyclopedia (photocopy edition).

The library has built a fully functional software and hardware support system. The campus network backbone adopts 100M transmission, and the local area network in the library exchanges 100M to the desktop. A storage access and automatic backup system with SAN structure has been built, and the storage capacity of disk array hard disk has reached 107T, which has established a relatively complete multi-disciplinary, multi-carrier and multi-type literature resource guarantee system at home and abroad. The collections of branch libraries of colleges and departments are incorporated into the general library management system, and unified access is realized through the campus network, and online resources provide 24-hour service.

The library has two electronic reading rooms, equipped with 2 12 computers and 80 on-campus retrieval machines. 24-hour network information service, teachers and students can freely access various database resources through campus networks, including wired networks and wireless networks, which provides the necessary conditions for improving the level of literature service. By using VPN technology, teachers and students can also enjoy all-round services provided by the library during off-campus period.

Xiangtan University Library adheres to the principle of literature resources construction that paper literature and electronic literature complement each other, physical literature and online virtual literature complement each other, and actual literature and available literature complement each other, and adopts a reader-oriented collection construction model to continuously and reasonably enrich the collection resources, with a substantial increase in collection scale and an increasingly optimized collection structure. According to the characteristics of comprehensive universities, a relatively complete multi-disciplinary, multi-carrier and multi-type literature resource guarantee system has been established.

The library introduced the Melinets integrated management system developed by Beihou University, which handled books and periodicals acquisition, acceptance, cataloging, reservation, circulation and public retrieval, and realized the automation and standardization of library business process management. By reviewing the historical collections and jointly compiling new books, the collections of the branches of the college have been connected with the integrated management system of the main library, providing services for the readers of the whole school on a unified platform, and realizing the * * * construction and * * * sharing of the information resources of the whole school.
