How to deal with indoor odor?
Method 1: Natural cleaning method was used.

1 open the window. Unless you think the smell comes from outside, let in fresh air and sunshine. Together, they will help to reduce any strong smell. If there are no other tools, opening the window will make the rest of the cleaning work easier. This is a very important step, because nothing is more helpful to remove odor than fresh air.

If the weather doesn't allow, try to ventilate the room in other ways, such as turning on the exhaust fan.

If possible, put smelly things in the sun to dispel their smell. Bring it back at night. Do an olfactory test. If something is the source of the smell, don't put it back in the room. Proper handling: throw away, steam clean, reinstall, and so on.

Method 2: Remove the odor source.

1 Eliminate odor sources. Don't simply remove the source of the smell. If the source is still there, we must make more efforts. Take out the garbage, bathe the dog, clean the refrigerator, or do anything to prevent it from emitting more smells.

2 check the vents and wall sockets to find the source of the smell. A dead mouse in the wall will stink the whole room, and the smell will be more obvious if it is around the wall socket. You can wait a few months for it to dissipate, or you can tear down part of the wall and take it away. You should also block the hole in the wall (or the hole in the attic) to prevent rats from entering again.

Method 3: Clean and deodorize

1 vacuum cleaner cleaning. This includes not only carpets, but also decorations and curtains. If you like, you can sprinkle baking soda or carpet deodorant on the carpet first. Give it some time to absorb the oil and smell, then take time out completely and do it again a few times. Carpet deodorant usually has its own smell and will stay on the carpet for a while, so please make sure to choose your favorite smell. The vacuum cleaner will also suck dust and debris from the carpet.

When cleaning the place with peculiar smell, be sure to replace the vacuum bag regularly.

2 Clean hard surfaces. Hard surfaces include bright paint, hard floors, walls (smooth or semi-smooth), countertops, sinks, tables, etc. Any detergent that is gentle and does not hurt hands, can remove grease and does not damage the surface coating will do.

Fold the sponge so that only a part of it touches the wall at a time, and then rub it along the wall. The first time the surface is dirty, turn it over and fold it.

The simple combination of half a cup of water and half a cup of distilled white vinegar has a very good effect. It also makes use of the deodorizing function of vinegar. If you don't like the taste of vinegar, you can try adding some essential oil. Tea trees, lemons and oranges are all odorants that help deodorize. This thing is actually a very effective cleaner and can be used for regular cleaning.

Paint and wallpaper are difficult to wash. Instead, try to remove the thin layer on the wall and ceiling with a dry sponge [1]. You can find them in cleaning shops and good household goods stores. Dry sponge is treated natural rubber, which is very useful for dry surfaces, usually brown or red.

After the whole sponge becomes dirty, that is to say, the surface is all dark brown. Don't remove the dirty things, throw them away and use new ones. Don't wet the dry sponge or try to clean it.

Clean the carpet or ask a professional for help. If you think the smell comes from the carpet or there is still smell on the carpet, please clean the carpet or have it cleaned by a professional. If you know that the smell comes from somewhere in the carpet, you can also focus on this one.

Look at "how to remove urine from carpet" or "how to remove pet vomit" if your carpet has these problems.

If you know it's a carpet problem, you may need to replace it, or at least clean it thoroughly, especially if it is very dirty, or wet, or full of fungi or molds.

Wash clothes, bedding and sheets if they smell like you want to throw them away. If they can withstand direct sunlight, it is also helpful to hang them outdoors to dry, especially on sunny days. Don't forget to throw away carpets, blankets and any other fabrics that blend in with the room. Everything that can't be washed should be dry-cleaned, but you should say hello in advance, because dry-cleaning will also produce some smells (such as the smell of mothballs).

5 clean the light bulb. If you smoke, or other similar problems, the light bulb will get a coat because it will retain chemicals from cigarettes or other sources. When you turn on the light, the light bulb starts to heat up and the smell will appear. Keep the light bulb clean to avoid this problem.

Try to use energy-saving lamps (compact fluorescent tubes). Some energy-saving lamps are coated with titanium dioxide, which can absorb odor when the bulb is turned on. Not all energy-saving lamps are coated. If you need such bulbs, look for them.

Clean the furniture or clean it yourself with furniture cleaner. Check the inconspicuous places first. The sofa has faded or changed with something else. Don't forget to vacuum under the mat.

For leather furniture, use leather soap or soap to clean it.

7 Replace the filter of any ventilation, heating or air conditioning system. In any case, these systems will work better when the filters are cleaned regularly. If you want to get rid of odors, don't let them circulate in your ventilation system. If you think the ventilation system is the root of the problem and replacing the filter doesn't help, try cleaning the pipes.

Method 4: Use vinegar.

1 Deodorize with vinegar. Put a bowl of white vinegar in the room for the night. In the morning, the air will be cleaner. You can also use this trick to deodorize without washing clothes. Add a few drops of white vinegar to the bathtub with hot water and hang clothes on it. As for deodorized vinegar, there are the following kinds:

Putting a bowl of vinegar in the room for 24 hours can remove the smell of smoke in the room.

A little vinegar and burnt cinder can get rid of the smell of smoke in the room.

Scrubbing with hot soapy water on a regular basis can remove the odor of the refrigerator, and then soak the cloth in hot water with a little vinegar to wipe it.

Put a cup of mixture of half water and half vinegar on a heat-resistant plate. Heat it in the oven until it boils. Then turn off the oven and let it stay overnight. The next day, wipe it with a wet cloth soaked in hot water and vinegar. The smell should disappear.

Pour two and a half cups of vinegar into the toilet. Leave it for 30 minutes, then rinse it off. The toilet will be brand new.

Method 5: Cover up the smell

1 Use aromatherapy to cover up the smell.

Light scented candles. The burning candle and its own fragrance will eliminate the odor together. Remember, many candles can only cover up the smell, so if you can't deal with the source of the smell, this is a temporary measure or a last resort.

Dispel the smell with a diffuser.

Use room fresheners and/or products purchased from stores.

If you like the tasteless way, you can try spraying or absorbing gel. This can be used for furniture or other items that are not suitable for washing or dry cleaning.

Burn incense. Sometimes, nothing can overwhelm the smell of burning incense. Again, this is just to cover up the smell.

Method 6: Remove the musty smell.

1 Use chlorine dioxide to kill mold spores. This is a common method to control the smell of mold on ships, and it is also used by libraries to control the spread of mold.

A small amount of chlorine dioxide suitable for ships and toilets has several convenient sources. For example, a suitable product is a small bag to control musty smell, which can be bought through online search. Another suitable product is sachet (such as MBdeotrex-30 sachet), which can also be found through online search.

Method 7: Paint or redecorate.

Before painting, 1 crumpled up a lot of newspapers and put them in a smelly room for a few days. The more newspapers, the better the smell and the stronger the absorption capacity. However, you don't want to print the newspaper on other things, so you can put the newspaper on clean old sheets. Leave the room, close the door and let the newspaper absorb it for a few days. A week or two is better.

This method is also applicable to the trunk of a car with bad smell.

2 Paint the room. If all other measures fail to eliminate the odor, try painting the room. Replace carpets and wallpaper if necessary. The new material will also have its own smell, but it should dissipate quickly.

If you paint to deodorize, you must be prepared. Before painting, clean the wall with TSP (trisodium phosphate) as instructed. Let it air dry, and then apply a stain sealing primer before painting.

If the smell still exists, such as pet urine seeping into the carpet, you may need to replace the carpet and mat. If you have reached this point, paint the floor to block the smell from the ground before laying a new carpet.
