Baoji University of Arts and Science is a provincial undergraduate institution of higher learning focusing on normal education, literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, management, law and teaching. Its predecessor was Baoji University (undergraduate) founded by 1958. In 1992, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, 1978 merged with Baoji Teachers College and was renamed Baoji University of Arts and Sciences. Located in the hometown of Emperor Yan, the birthplace of Zhou and Qin culture, and Baoji City, the second largest industrial city in Shaanxi Province.
The college now has 6 departments (departments) of politics and law, Chinese, history, foreign languages, education, art, economics and management, mathematics, physics, chemistry and chemical engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, computer science, electronic and electrical engineering, geographical science and environmental engineering, sports and social science, etc. 16, and 24 undergraduate majors, involving eight major disciplines. There is also an adult education college. The college recruits students from all over the country and is qualified to recruit foreign students. At present, there are nearly ten thousand students in school. More than 20 thousand professionals have been trained for the society, and the graduates are all over the country. In recent years, the one-time employment rate of graduates has remained above 98%.
The college has a strong faculty, with 84 faculty members1person, including professors, associate professors 140, doctors and masters 100. The college also hired more than 40 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad as part-time professors and often came to the college to give lectures. The college has always adhered to the concept that talents are the first resource, forming a good atmosphere of respecting knowledge, talents, teachers and promoting outstanding talents to stand out. Measures such as the Tenth Five-Year Plan and Implementation Measures for the Construction of Teachers in Baoji University of Arts and Sciences, the Interim Measures for the Award of High-level Scientific Research Achievements in Baoji University of Arts and Sciences, and the Interim Measures for the Selection and Training of High-level Talents in Baoji University of Arts and Sciences have been promulgated one after another. The implementation of the Hundred Talents Program has selected and trained 10 outstanding young and middle-aged talents, 20 academic leaders and 40 young and middle-aged teaching and research backbones, encouraging teachers to teach and research. In the past five years, nearly 30 teachers have been awarded the titles of national excellent teachers, provincial experts with outstanding contributions and young experts with outstanding contributions in Shaanxi Province. Yang (pen name), an associate professor of Chinese Department and a young writer, also won the first and second Lu Xun Literature Awards.
The college has China Western Disaster Reduction Education Center, Urban and Rural Economic Research Institute, Chemical Research Institute, Applied Physics Research Institute, Humanities Research Institute, Qin Zhou Cultural Research Institute and other academic research institutions. A total of 15 professors participated in the postgraduate training of 6 disciplines and 7 majors in Northwest University, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest A&F University and xidian university. The college has established cooperative relations with relevant universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Russia, Japan, Britain and other countries, and carried out extensive academic exchanges and friendly exchanges. The college has strengthened discipline construction and scientific research by formulating a series of measures such as the Tenth Five-Year Development Plan for Key Discipline Construction, the Management Measures for Key Discipline Construction and the Tenth Five-Year Development Plan for Key Discipline Construction. At present, the college has a strong academic atmosphere and fruitful scientific research results. Marxist philosophy, basic mathematics and geography were approved as provincial key disciplines. Every year, nearly 100 papers are collected and reprinted by international academic core journals SCI, EI, American Mathematical Review, Chemical Abstracts, German Mathematical Abstracts, China Mathematical Abstracts, Xinhua Abstracts, Brief Introduction of University Journals of Liberal Arts, and materials copied by National People's Congress. According to the statistics of China Youth in 2000, the average number of academic papers published by teachers in Baoji University of Arts and Sciences was 1998, ranking 16 among universities in China. At the same time, the college always regards improving the quality of education and teaching as the foundation of running a school, constantly strengthens the basic construction of teaching, strives to improve the conditions of running a school, and formulates the Implementation Opinions on Deepening Teaching Reform and Improving the Quality of Personnel Training and the Monitoring System of Teaching Quality Management. Reform teaching content, teaching methods and curriculum system, standardize teaching management, and actively implement quality education project, 100 key courses construction plan, teaching supervision system, teacher attendance and evaluation system, and student information officer system.
The college library has more than 700,000 books, more than 2,000 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and an electronic reading room. Academic journals "Journal of Baoji University of Arts and Sciences (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition)" and "Natural Sciences Edition" are all published at home and abroad. West forum, first published in 1999, has had a good influence throughout the country. Journal of Baoji University of Arts and Sciences (Natural Science Edition) won the first prize of Shaanxi Sci-tech Periodical in 2000, and 200 1 was selected as a double-effect periodical of China Sci-tech Periodical (social and economic benefits). The college has advanced teaching and experimental equipment, with nearly 7,000 sets (pieces) of teaching equipment worth nearly 50 million yuan. There are 54 teaching and practice bases, more than 30 science and engineering laboratories and practice factories, among which the disaster monitoring and mechanism simulation laboratory is a provincial key laboratory, and the plant college-level key laboratory has been included in the single fund of the provincial key laboratory. 1995 was awarded the title of 1996 civilized campus by Shaanxi provincial education commission and provincial education commission, and has maintained this honor year after year. 200 1 was awarded by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education as an advanced collective for administering schools by popularizing law. Under the new situation of western development and higher education development, the college emancipates its mind, seizes the opportunity, bases itself on Baoji, faces Shaanxi, radiates the whole country, fully implements the Party's educational policy, adheres to the principle of educating people, takes teaching as the center, takes discipline construction as the leader, and focuses on talent construction; Adhere to the guiding ideology of running a school by improving quality for survival, deepening reform for development, seeking benefits by scale and seeking status by characteristics, adhere to the policy of establishing a school by quality, strengthening the school by science and technology and promoting the school by reform, and strive to build the college into an important base for cultivating innovative talents in basic education and economic construction in western Shaanxi in accordance with the running mode of taking ordinary higher education as the main body, adult education and vocational and technical education as the two wings, and undergraduate education and postgraduate education simultaneously. In 2000, with the approval of Shaanxi Provincial Planning Commission, Shaanxi Provincial Education Department and Baoji Municipal Government, the college will requisition 800 mu of land in Baoji High-tech Development Zone, and it will take about 15 years to build the college into a comprehensive university with teachers as the main body, infiltration of arts and sciences, integration of science and engineering, standardized management, distinctive features and high reputation.
