Shanghai Library is a large comprehensive research-oriented public library, which was built in July 1952. Before 1996, Shanghai Library was located at No.325 Nanjing West Road, and 1996 moved into the new library.
The new Shanghai Library is one of the top ten landmark cultural facilities in Shanghai. Located in Huaihai Middle Road, it covers an area of 3. 1 hectare with a building area of 83,000 square meters. The new building consists of two tower-shaped high-rise buildings, the heights of which are 106.9 meters and 58.8 meters respectively, and the podium has five floors. There are knowledge square and wisdom square, and the surrounding green area is 1. 1.0000 square meters.
/kloc-0 laid the foundation stone in March, 1993;/kloc-0 was partially opened to the outside world in February, 1996;/kloc-0 was fully opened in May, 1997;/kloc-0 was basically completed in February, 1997. The library has 32 reading rooms and specialized rooms, more than 3,000 reading seats and 20 individual research rooms.
In addition, there are education and training bases with first-class school buildings and advanced teaching facilities, as well as large and medium-sized exhibition halls, lecture halls, multi-function halls, academic activity rooms and music appreciation halls for international and domestic cultural exhibitions, academic exchanges, cultural entertainment, art appreciation and film and television viewing.
The new museum also has a library and information research institute, a historical literature research institute, a China cultural celebrity manuscript museum and an art research museum.
The library is equipped with the advanced computer management system in the world. The local area network connects more than 700 sites in the library, and is connected with major information networks at home and abroad. Readers outside the library can access the website of Shanghai Library through the Internet, including bibliographic information, daily highlights, scientific and technological exhibitions and collections.
The new library is also equipped with a satellite communication receiving antenna system, the world-advanced self-propelled trolley book delivery system and book retrieval information electronic transmission system, and is equipped with advanced automatic control linkage central air conditioning system, fire alarm monitoring system and high-definition high-fidelity audio-visual system.
