The 60-year road has come step by step through the efforts of several generations of librarians with the support of the municipal party Committee, the municipal government, the cultural authorities and all walks of life. Today, Wuhu Library has developed into a medium-sized national second-class public library, which is the center for the people in the city to carry out reading and learning activities, the center for the storage, dissemination, development and retrieval of literature information, and the center for organizing local library research, business guidance and cooperation and coordination.
1949 10 Shortly after the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Wuhu Municipal People's Government established Wuhu People's Education Museum on 1949 10, which consists of people's libraries, clubs and people to develop culture and education. Since then, the first public library opened to the public in Wuhu history has been established.
When the People's Library was founded, it was located at No.66 Huankou Road (near the existing Chimu Pavilion). In August 1950, 1, Wuhu Military Management Committee ordered that the People's Library be set aside from the People's Education Museum and listed as Wuhu People's Library. In September, 195 1, People's Library moved to Yanyudun on Jinghu South Road, 10,1952,65438 was renamed and listed as Wuhu Library. 1974 65438+February, the Municipal Revolutionary Committee approved the construction of a new library and reading building on the south bank of Jinghu Lake. After the stack room was completed, it was moved from Yanyudun to the new stack room in September. 1985, and the back wall of the stack room was opened for temporary lending service. At the same time, the editorial team and the reference room moved into the stacks, while the other departments remained in Yanyudun. The new reading building was completed on June 65438+February 1985, and officially opened to the public on June 1 day 1987. The borrowing office moved from the back wall of the stack room to the first floor of the reading room, which was connected with the stack room. The newspaper reading room, tutoring group and office were moved to the new building at the same time. At this point, the library is divided into two jobs: Yanyudun and the new building.
