(i) Model United Nations Overview

Model United Nations is a conference that imitates the United Nations and relevant international institutions and is held around international hot issues according to its operation mode and principles of procedure. Young students play diplomats from different countries and participate in "United Nations meetings" as representatives of various countries. Delegates abide by the rules of the Congress and, under the auspices of the Presidium of the Congress, expound their views on "their own country" through speeches, debates and lobbying, so as to serve the interests of "their own country", communicate and cooperate with friendly countries, and resolve conflicts; They discuss draft resolutions and promote international cooperation; On the stage of the "United Nations", they try to find solutions to major international problems with critical and creative thinking and actions, and give full play to their talents.

Although there is no exact historical record of the origin of Model United Nations, it is generally believed that this activity originated from Harvard University in the United States. Before the founding of the United Nations, a group of students were active on campus, and they were full of strong interest in international organizations and international politics. Active Harvard students explore new forms while being active. They began to simulate diplomats from different countries and discussed international issues with reference to the proceedings of the League of Nations. Later, when the United Nations was established, such model meetings were preserved and gradually developed into model United Nations activities.

After more than 60 years of development, Model United Nations activities have become popular all over the world, with various forms and scales, including international conferences, national conferences and regional and inter-school conferences, with participants ranging from college students to high school students and even junior high school students. At the same time, Model UN activities are not only simulations of UN institutions, but also simulations of other global or regional multilateral organizations, government cabinets, international forums and other organizations or conferences. At present, nearly 400 international model United Nations conferences are held in more than 50 countries on five continents every year. Every year, teachers and students come from more than 0/00 countries in the world, with a total number of more than 4 million people.

(b) Model United Nations development (abroad)

Model United Nations activities originated in the United States and developed most maturely in the United States. Middle schools and universities all over the United States hold model United Nations activities. Among them, the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference (HNMUN) is the oldest, largest and most influential model United Nations conference in the United States, with nearly 30 committees and nearly 3,000 participants. The organizers of the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference are all Harvard students. Their professional attitude and professionalism are commendable. The background materials written by the Presidium on this topic amount to 30-40 pages, and the excellent academic level is unmatched by other conferences.

The National Model United Nations (NMUN) is the most international model United Nations conference in the United States. Sponsored by NCCA, the conference has developed from 65438 to 0946. There were 3500 people attending the meeting, half of whom came from outside the United States. The most distinctive feature of this conference is that it was held at the United Nations Headquarters in new york, USA, so that the delegates can experience the working environment of diplomats from various countries more truly.

The Hague International Model United Nations is the largest world-class model United Nations conference for middle school students. It attracts nearly 4000 middle school students from all over the world every year. 1998, The Hague International Model United Nations Conference became an international NGO officially recognized by the United Nations. In 2002, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan? Annan personally attended the meeting, and now there are 37 branches all over five continents, and the total number of participants reaches several hundred thousand every year. Every year, the General Assembly chooses a specific theme according to the international focus of that year, such as "Eliminating Extreme Poverty and Hunger" in 2007 and "Climate Change" in 2008. After five days of discussion, the results of the delegates' meeting-the resolutions passed by voting-will be compiled by the organizing committee of the meeting, submitted to the United Nations Secretariat and stored in the United Nations library. It shows the contribution of young people all over the world to supporting the United Nations, promoting international cooperation and looking forward to world peace.

(3) Simulate the development of the United Nations in China.

The development of Model United Nations in China can be divided into three stages: the first stage is from 200/KLOC-0 to 2003, the second stage is from 2004 to 2006, and the third stage is from 2007 to the present.

If we trace the origin of UN activities in China, the earliest pioneer should be Beijing Shunyi International School. This school specializes in serving the children of foreigners in China. As early as 1993, Beijing Shunyi International School held the first Beijing Model United Nations, which is a branch of The Hague International Model United Nations Conference. However, its main participants are international schools in various countries and China, which are independent of domestic education, so there are no students from China. Some foreign university teachers have heard of this kind of activity, but the Model United Nations did not formally enter domestic schools before 200 1.

200 1-2003, the initial stage of "Model United Nations"

200 1 year is a crucial period for Model United Nations to take root in China. In February of that year, two students from Peking University Institute of International Relations went to Boston to observe the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference. Immediately after returning home, they began to form a team to organize model United Nations activities in Peking University.

Since 2002, Peking University, China Foreign Affairs University and Northwestern Polytechnical University have sent teams to participate in the International Model United Nations Conference. From 200 1 to 2003, Model United Nations was in its infancy in China. Participants mainly attend the conference, accumulate experience as representatives, try to learn from international conferences, and carry out similar activities in China.

From 2004 to 2006, the consolidation and development period of "Model United Nations"

United nations association of china is the main force to promote the development of Model United Nations, and it is a national non-governmental organization that the people of China support and promote the peace and development of the United Nations.

In 2002 and 2003, united nations association of china and China Foreign Affairs University co-hosted the China Model United Nations Conference, which was the first high-level model United Nations event with official participation.

Since 2004, united nations association of china has held "China Model United Nations Conference" in universities all over the country, which has been supported by the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, mainly the Model Human Rights Commission (later the Human Rights Council).

At present, more and more China college students go abroad to participate in international model United Nations activities, and exchanges between domestic universities are becoming more and more frequent.

Since 2007, Model United Nations has been developing vigorously.

Since 2007, more and more colleges and universities have participated in and organized their own Model United Nations activities, which indicates that the ability of China students to organize international Model United Nations activities independently has been initially possessed.

Today, the China Model United Nations Congress, the Asian International Model United Nations Congress and the Foreign Affairs University Model United Nations Congress are the leaders of domestic university student congresses. Xi 'an Model United Nations Congress is the representative of the regional conference; China Renmin University, Sichuan University, Hunan University, Southeast University, Yanbian University and henan university of economics and law are all holding intra-school or inter-school conferences.

(d) Meaning of Model United Nations

Model United Nations has been popular all over the world for nearly a century, because it is an activity of great educational significance.

I give students a broader vision. Model United Nations activities involve a wide range of issues, most of which are hot issues facing all countries today. In such a passionate and challenging era of globalization, with the deepening of reform and opening up in China and the complicated and changeable international situation, actively participating in this activity will not only help students understand the United Nations, but also open a window for them and provide them with a stage to care about the world, think and discuss issues from an international perspective.

Exercise leadership temperament and cooperation spirit. Model United Nations activities are a highly interactive learning experience. Young people can not only study and discuss international affairs, but also exercise their abilities of organization, planning and management, research and writing, speech and debate, conflict resolution, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and communication and exchange with others through practice. These will benefit students for life. Un secretary-general ke Fei? In his congratulatory letter to the Model United Nations Congress, Annan said: "The United Nations depends on the efforts of everyone in the world, especially young people like you. This century will soon let you. " Today's young people will be the makers of future decisions. Model United Nations is an activity where young leaders can be trained. China is playing an increasingly important role on the world stage, and young people in China should be fully prepared to meet the challenges of internationalization. I believe that young students can stage a wonderful and shocking scene on the stage of model United Nations.

L Stimulate English enthusiasm and cultivate learning ability. Since Model United Nations activities originated in the West, the working language of most meetings is English. Reading background materials, writing a lot of documents at the meeting, listening to speeches and expounding opinions all put forward high requirements for students' English level. Model United Nations activities are experiential activities, and delegates need to express themselves consciously and independently in English when they are integrated into diplomatic occasions. In this environment, students' enthusiasm for learning English is greatly stimulated. Although the last meeting is only a few days, the table should be ready before the meeting. Delegates must pay close attention to "their own country" and study and learn a country's politics, economy, foreign policy and other aspects. Only in this way can they give full play to the role of diplomats. In fact, the preparation process is an integration process of multidisciplinary knowledge. Delegates need to closely integrate political, economic, historical and geographical knowledge with the issues to be discussed at the meeting and think about the relationship between various elements. In this way, the barriers between disciplines are broken and a complete knowledge system is formed.

A grand gathering of elite students. Model United Nations is the most influential student activity in the world. World-renowned universities such as Columbia University, Yale University, Harvard University and Stanford University all have annual Model United Nations conferences. In addition, the Model United Nations is also distributed in universities in the United States, Japan, Britain, Switzerland, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Egypt, the Netherlands, Germany, Canada and other countries. Young people full of vigor and vitality show their elegance on this stage! Model United Nations activities have been supported and helped by United Nations Headquarters for a long time. Many countries have been encouraged and praised by letters and telegrams, and a special website about the World Model United Nations has been established on the official website of the United Nations:

(b) Developing the Model United Nations in the middle school attached to Henan University.

Model United Nations (hereinafter referred to as MUN) is a conference that imitates the United Nations and relevant international institutions and is held around international hot issues according to its operation mode and principles of procedure. Young students play diplomats from different countries and participate in "United Nations meetings" as representatives of various countries. Delegates abide by the rules of the Congress and, under the auspices of the Presidium of the Congress, expound their views on "their own country" through speeches, debates and lobbying, so as to serve the interests of "their own country", communicate and cooperate with friendly countries, and resolve conflicts; They discuss draft resolutions and promote international cooperation; They give full play to their talents on the stage of the United Nations.

In line with the original intention of "teenagers actively pay attention to the international social situation", in March of 20 12, students initially established the "new era theory" political and historical discussion society. The establishment of this club has attracted many students who are enthusiastic and concerned about the international community, including members of the Youth League. At that time, Shen Duo, president of the Youth League Association, also expressed great interest in this association. After watching a seminar on the new time theory, Shen Duo suggested that a Model United Nations Association should be established on the basis of the original new time theory. Liao, then vice president of New Era Theory, seriously considered this proposal and proposed to establish a new Model United Nations Association in the form of a community and become independent. After studying the resolution with the internal management of the club, students such as Liao, Kong Fei and so on decided to hold a model United Nations conference within a limited time to see the effect. As a result, the model association preparatory group was formally established. At the beginning of its establishment, every member of the preparatory group sacrificed his time after class to prepare for the first model association conference. The monitor of Grade Two 1 1 class, the Communist Youth League Secretary Liao and Kong Fei of Grade Two1/Class invited the students of Grade Two 1 1 class to participate in the first model association as representatives. And Liao won the support of the third runner-up teacher in Grade Two 1 1 class. As the instructor of the preparatory group, Mr. Guan Longgang also sacrificed his precious time to prepare English manuscripts for the English host of the conference. With the hard preparation of the members of the preparatory group and the efforts of all the delegates, the first Model Federation Conference was successfully concluded. Through the observation of this model association, students Shen Duo, Liao think that a model United Nations association can be established in the school. So the application letter was drafted by Liao and approved by the school, and the Model United Nations Association of the High School Attached to Heda University was established. After discussion and research by Liao, Zhang and Kong Fei, the aim of the association is "wisdom, vision, leaders and elites" and the slogan of action is "our future, our world". With the help of student Shen Duohe, Liao Jiangmo and I joined the emblem to design the Liang Cheng lamp pattern (right). At this point, the preparatory work for the establishment of the Model United Nations Association has ended. The Model United Nations Association of the Middle School Affiliated to Henan University was formally established on June 29th, 20th12nd.
