Ivan took back a food leaflet from school, which introduced dozens of snacks, cakes and desserts, and also printed with a clear price tag. Ivan took this leaflet to his neighbors and knocked on doors.
A child comes to sell, and probably no one will care. However, to my surprise, a few minutes later, Ivan came back happily and said that he had got many orders. Two days later, the goods on the order arrived, and Ivan put these beautifully packaged foods into the luggage cart and delivered them to the customers.
The food promoted by Ivan is produced by regular manufacturers, and the price is more favorable than that in the store, and it can also be delivered to the door. His clients also know that this is an activity organized by the school, so they all support it.
Be an honest volunteer
In addition to working, voluntary service is also a compulsory course for American students. The admission of students in American universities depends not only on the results of an exam, but also on the contents and achievements of students in various elective courses in middle schools and their performance in various social practice activities. American education departments have clear requirements for each student's volunteer time, such as 60 hours of social volunteer records.
Students often volunteer after school or during holidays. There are volunteers in rehabilitation centers for the disabled, activity centers for the elderly, supermarkets, community libraries, kindergartens and many other places. Some students go to the Red Cross Relief Center to distribute food to the homeless. At some intersections, volunteer students carry plastic buckets to raise money for the disabled.
Kindergarten staff get off work at 5 pm every day, but some children's parents can't pick up their children on time. At this time, student volunteers will gather these children in an activity room and play with them until each child is taken away by their parents.
Students will get a voucher when they volunteer. You may ask: Will someone cheat and ask for two hours after doing 10 minutes? Could it be that you didn't do it at all and got a record of volunteering? I asked these questions, too. The answer given to me by American friends is: no, in the United States, honesty is a very important social morality, and honesty education is an important part of civic education in schools. You can't lie or perjure yourself, which is a truth that American children have known since childhood. In addition, dishonest behavior will also reduce a person's credit rating, which will be greatly affected in job hunting and consumer loans.
China students "do as the Romans do"
Volunteer service is an important part of American education, and China students studying in the United States also do as the Romans do.
Every July and August, students from China report to the United States, and every year, 40 or 50 students from China report to the University of Texas at Austin. The staff of "China Overseas Students Association" provided the student volunteers with the names, contact numbers, arrival dates and flight numbers of overseas students from China who reported in advance.
Whenever a flight of China students arrives in Austin, the students in the volunteer group will drive to the airport, pick up China who just got off the plane and report to the school, then help the freshmen to contact their residences, take them to apply for bank cards, buy daily necessities, food and so on. The Chinese community in Austin will donate all kinds of daily necessities: beds, lamps, cookers, tableware, bedding ... Student volunteers will also send these things to freshmen one by one. When providing these services, volunteers take nothing, and some even invite freshmen to dinner out of their own pockets.
