Architectural features of the former site of Zhijiang University
The original school building was built in 1907, which was constructed in two phases. * * * There are more than 40 buildings with a construction area of over 70,000 square meters. The single building area is small, with three floors as the main structure, red brick clear water exterior wall and red tile roof as the main tone. The former building complex of Zhijiang University is a mixture of western modern architecture and oriental architecture, with European modern architectural style rising between World War I and World War II and the shadow of Renaissance. This complex won the second place in the complete protection of modern university buildings in the world.

There are Shensi Hall, Duke Hall, Science and Technology Museum, Library, Economic Museum, East House and West House.

Buildings such as Beizhai, Zhai Wei, Red Building, Green Building and Grey Building are usually called two halls, three halls, four halls and four rooms. Shensi Hall, the main building of the school, is located in the middle of the campus square, which is the administrative office of the principal, finance, educational administration, general affairs, conference room and so on. The plane is in a straight line, with a three-story brick-wood structure, tile exterior walls, arched doors and windows, and the original two-story cornice angle of the roof, which is restored to a simple four-slope top, with a simple and stable shape. To the north of the bell tower is a geometric garden with a slightly American university style. It is an administrative office building with three floors, with a simple top, a circular arched window below and a Doric hall at the bottom. Shensi Hall echoes the bell tower from a distance, and a pair of stone lions are squatting on the grass under the steps.

The Economic Pavilion, also called Tonghuai Hall, is located at the southern end of the central lawn of the campus. 1936 was donated by the declarant Mr. Shi. The main body has three floors, the middle four is the bell tower, the red brick clear water exterior wall, and the middle is a big arch passing through the hall, which embodies the architectural image of the campus entrance. The building abandons the complex pattern and has simple lines, which is a typical modern building.

The library is located on the hillside between Shensi Hall and Duke Hall. Three-story red brick fair-faced exterior wall with red tiles on the top, with large volume, good proportion, exquisite interior decoration and a reading room that can accommodate 500 people.

Duke Hall, also called Yu Ying Hall, is in the northwest of Shensi Hall. Originally, it was a church for prayer on campus; Later, it was used as a lecture hall and club for students, with a scale of 500 seats. Stone exterior wall, blue corrugated sloping roof, striking cross on the original roof. It is a relatively modern building with rough and sharp shape and dark color.

Dongzhai, Xizhai, Zhai Wei, Red House and Grey House are mostly dormitories, among which Dongzhai and Xizhai are male dormitories and Zhai Wei is female dormitories. The Red Mansion is two villas, called the Upper Red Mansion and the Lower Red Mansion, with a circular arch gallery and carved columns, leaving traces of ancient Roman architecture, which is very elegant. Si Tuleideng once lived in Xiahongfang, which was originally the dormitory for school leaders and later became the dormitory for teachers.

The whole building complex is built on the mountain, hidden among pines and cypresses, and the layout is patchy and integrated with the space environment. The combination of Chinese and western architecture, with the style of modern European architecture and the shadow of Renaissance, is concise and novel, which better embodies the modern architectural design ideas and won the second place in the complete protection of modern university buildings in the world. Up to now, it is one of the most well-preserved modern university campuses in China. In 2006, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
