Baluwen is an ancient script, which is often used in northwest India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The earliest discovered Baluwen can be traced back to 25 BC1year, and gradually disappeared in the 3rd century A.D., but it is still used all over the Silk Road, and may not be completely abandoned until the 7th century.

Boluwen may have evolved from Aramaic letters during Persian rule, but no conclusive evidence of this evolution has been found. The appearance of Baltic was similar to that of Sanskrit in India, but Sanskrit was derived from many languages in India and Southeast Asia. Baltic had no successor and was finally replaced by Sanskrit. However, this language was used during the development of Buddhism. Many Buddhist scriptures were recorded in this language and spread to Central Asia and western China through the Silk Road. The British Library received donations in 1994, including the earliest Buddhist Bayeux Sutra written in Bailuyuan script in 1 century, which was discovered in Afghanistan.

Balu character is a vowel-marked character with 252 different symbols representing various combinations of consonants and vowels. Written horizontally from right to left, it is generally cursive, and there are also inscriptions on metal coins and stones.
