The situation of Marx in his later years
Marx lived in exile for the rest of his life. He was expelled from Germany and France for revolutionary activities and has lived in London ever since. Here, he continued to participate in revolutionary activities, rejoined the Producers' Union, attended the inaugural meeting of First International and became the leader of this organization. Here, he completed the scientific masterpiece Das Kapital, expounded the theory of surplus value and revealed the laws of capitalist economy.

When it comes to Das Kapital, we can't help but mention the circular reading room of the British Museum. Marx borrowed books here in order to write famous works such as Das Kapital and Criticism of Political Economy. The reading room is located in the center of the British Museum, about 32 meters high and surrounded by bookshelves. According to the librarian, it was here that Marx outlined the grand blueprint of capitalism. He comes here to do research almost every day. He likes to choose seats from "L" to "P" because it is close to the reference books he needs. Marx once said to a friend: "We sit in the library to educate and enrich ourselves, that is, to prepare weapons and ammunition for the upcoming battle."

During most of their exile in London, the Marx family lived a life of hunger and cold. My daughter died of illness, and my beloved wife was ill and had no money for treatment. In London, the Marx family also moved many times and lived in a shabby apartment at No.28 Dianjie, not far from Chinatown for five years. The Marx family lived in two low-rise rooms on the third floor, where the stairs and walls were rather shabby and old. Now, a circular metal sign with white characters on a blue background is hung on the external wall of the third floor, which reads in English: "Karl Marx (18 18- 1883) from 185 1 to1883. During his five years here, Marx used bread and potatoes to satisfy his hunger, and wrote a lot of papers, such as the famous "The 18th Fog Month in louis bonaparte".

1On March 4th, 883, Marx died of lung abscess in an easy chair at home in London. This great thinker lived in poverty before his death, but left many precious spiritual wealth to mankind after his death. Engels called his surplus value theory and historical materialism two great discoveries. 1999, the BBC rated Marx as a "Millennium thinker".
