What churches are worth visiting in Beijing?
Beijing was the capital of Ming and Qing dynasties, and it was also the city that came into contact with the west earlier in modern history. Up to now, there are still a large number of exquisite church buildings, which are deeply influenced by the combination of Chinese and western cultures. The architectural style of churches in Beijing is very unique and it is an excellent choice for tourism.

Sishku Church 1

The original site of Beitang is at the entrance of Silkworm Pond near Zhongnanhai Lake. It was opened by 1703. 1887, demolition due to expansion of Zhongnanhai. Later, the Qing government allocated 452,000 taels of silver to build Xishiku in Tiananmen Square, Xi 'an.

1900 was renovated and upgraded to a higher level, becoming the solemn and beautiful North Temple we see today. The North Hall is a typical Gothic building.

Its four tall minarets, three pointed arches and the circular rose window in the center of the main span create a dignified and beautiful facade, which is more and more white and straight surrounded by pines, cypresses and cypresses.

There is China Pavilion around the front hall and yellow glazed tiles at the four corners. There are stone tablets inscribed by Gan Long in the pavilion, one in the west, one in the middle, one high and one low, which are ingeniously matched and breathtaking.

The statues of saints on both sides of the main entrance are unique among all churches in Beijing. 1985, the church was renovated and more dazzling, becoming the most gorgeous church in Beijing.

: East Hall on Wangfujing Street, built at 1655. It turned out to be a house given by the emperor shunzhi to two foreign Taoist priests. They built a small church on the vacant land, which was destroyed many times because of the earthquake and war.

1904 was rebuilt and reopened on 1980 after repair. Due to the geographical location, the facade of the East Hall faces west, and the architectural form is Romanesque, with thick pilasters and a dome with one high and two low, which has laid its rich style.

In 2000, in order to cooperate with the expansion project of Wangfujing Street, the government allocated 65.438+0.3 billion yuan for interior and exterior decoration, demolition of courtyard walls, expansion of the square in front of the hall, addition of fountains and floor lamps, and reconstruction of St. Joseph's memorial pavilion. It is worth mentioning that the original gate had to be moved within 2 meters of the road red line.

But its architectural style and color match the church so well that many old Beijingers think it is the original old courtyard gate. The statue in the pavilion is white and brightly lit at night, and the East Hall has ushered in unprecedented glory in history.

2. Wangfujing Church

The oldest Catholic church in the city is the South Hall, commonly known as the Xuanwu Gate Hall. At first, Matteo Ricci built a small church here. In 1650, Tang Ruowang expanded it into the first cathedral in Beijing.

The emperor shunzhi came here 24 times to have a heart-to-heart talk with Tang Ruowang. 1775, South Temple was destroyed by fire. Later, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty gave it two thousand silver dollars to rebuild. 1900 was burned again, and 1904 was rebuilt.

It has three courtyards. The main entrance of Chinese style is Notre Dame, the east courtyard is a church and the west courtyard is a house.

In addition, there are the observatory and the library building. The facade of the church faces south in Baroque style and the interior in Romanesque style. Three magnificent and exquisite arches decorate the entrance.

3. Xuanwumen Church

The last church built by missionaries in China was Dongjiaominxiang Church, also known as Saint Mill Church and French Church.

Dongjiaominxiang Church is a two-story Gothic building built in 190 1. Dongjiaominxiang Cathedral is famous for its exquisite angel statue above its main entrance.

In addition to the Gothic main building of the church, there is a western-style two-story building on the north side of the temple, which is the residence of our priest. There are ten brick bungalows on the east side of the church, which are arranged according to the format of traditional houses in Beijing, but the doors and windows are arched, which can be regarded as a combination of Chinese and western.

Compared with the four major Catholic churches in Beijing: Nantang, Beitang, Dong Tang and Xitang, Dongjiaominxiang Catholic Church has a short history and a small scale, but its architecture is small and exquisite, and it is also one of the few Catholic churches in Beijing that have not been completely destroyed and rebuilt.

Xizhimen Catholic Church was once confiscated as a warehouse of the factory, during which the three-story bell tower of the church was also demolished.

1994, Xitang reopened and resumed normal religious activities. In 2008-2009, the bell tower and courtyard were rebuilt, and the original appearance of the Republic of China was restored.

4. Dongjiaominxiang Church

Zhushikou Church, a Christian church in Beijing, located in Qianmenwai Street, was founded in the late Qing Dynasty 1904 and also by the American Methodist Church.

It is the only Christian church in southern Beijing with a simple Gothic appearance. It is a three-story building, which can accommodate thousands of people to worship.

The appearance and interior decoration of this church are also very simple, which was originally unremarkable.

However, in 2000, when Guangdong-Guangxi Road was widened and built, in order not to affect the church, an extension auxiliary road was specially built in the north-south direction, leaving zhushikou Church in its original place and becoming a small roundabout on Guang 'an Street. Later, millions of dollars were spent to maintain and repair the church, which made it quite striking and unique.
