Ningxia Institute of Technology (formerly Ningxia Shizuishan Vocational and Technical College) was founded in 1985. 1993, approved by the state education commission, became the first batch of private universities in China, and was under the leadership of Shizuishan municipal government. In 2005, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The college is located in Shizuishan, an industrial city and a landscape garden city in Ningxia.
