Taishan University is a full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. The school's predecessor was Tai 'an Teachers College, which was founded in 1958. Its school history can be traced back to the Tai 'an official normal school founded in 1905 (the 31st year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty). During 1999, five municipal schools in Tai 'an merged to form a new Tai 'an Teachers College. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2002, it was renamed Taishan College.

The school has two campuses, the South Campus and the North Campus, with an area of 1.378 mu and a building area of 540,000 square meters. Wan Li Library, the first library established by the former party and state leaders in colleges and universities, has been completed.

The school is striving to build a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive teacher education characteristics.
