Shanxi University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China. It is a national "double-class" university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanxi Provincial People's Government.

Shanxi University currently has three campuses: Wucheng Campus, Dongshan Campus and Dadongguan Campus, with a total area of 3,008 mu and a building area of1166,400 square meters. It is a national civilized campus, a garden unit in Shanxi Province and a green school. The school has 2 1259 sets of undergraduate teaching experimental equipment.
