In May 2005, Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University was officially enrolled by the Ministry of Education (Jiao Fa Han [2005] No.68). In September, the college welcomed the first batch of students, with 724 students registered in 2005.
In May 2007, the office of Dongguan Municipal People's Government informed Sun Yat-sen University that Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University was approved to be located in Mayong, Dongguan, with land acquisition of 1800 mu.
