There are six floors in the main building, four floors in the main building and nine floors in the stacks, with a total construction area of 283 1 1.90 square meters, a construction area of 5266.50 square meters and a total construction area of 20508.04 square meters. The main building sits south to north, with a total design capacity of 3 million copies. The library has 7 lending service windows, more than 20 different types of reading rooms and nearly 2,000 reading seats. Except for a few precious documents such as ancient books, the rest all adopt the service mode of large-scale open-shelf borrowing. In addition, according to the characteristics of ethnic areas in Inner Mongolia and the particularity of ethnic documents, the museum has a reading room dedicated to the collection of Mongolian classics and local documents.

This library was built during the Eighth Five-Year Plan period in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which is a gift project for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Autonomous Region. It is an open, multi-functional, research-oriented and modern public document information center with national characteristics. Its main business adopts automatic management, which will lay the foundation for digitalization and networking and the establishment of digital libraries. In addition to providing readers with perfect literature borrowing and reference services, there are also high-standard multifunctional halls and electronic reading rooms, which provide good conditions for better playing the propaganda and education functions of the library and meeting the cultural needs of readers, and will play a great role in prospering the cultural undertakings in the region and improving the cultural quality of the whole people.
