The museum has a well-equipped reading room, personal research room, exhibition hall, academic activity room, lecture hall, multi-function hall and music appreciation room. A computer integrated management and service system with the functions of modern literature acquisition, cataloging, circulation and bibliographic inquiry. Advanced technology and equipment were introduced to promote readers' reading, and modern digital new services such as digital mobile reader lending, mobile phone library, electronic newspaper reading column, online entrusted lending, remote service of electronic animation electronic resources and free reading for readers of "My Library" (all-in-one card) were successively introduced.
The collection is rich and complete. It has nearly 52 million books, newspapers and periodicals, scientific and technological materials and more than 1.5 million old records and other non-book materials. The museum is located in Shanghai Ancient Books Protection Center, with a collection of 3.7 million historical documents. 1400 Vimalakīrti classic is the earliest collection in the above picture. With 342 genealogies and more than1.8000 surnames, it is the library with the largest collection of China genealogies at home and abroad.
The library implements free accreditation and adheres to the principle that "360 banks can apply for accreditation, which is open to the public every day for 365 days".
