Central South University is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, and it is the first university to enter the national "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project". Its predecessor was Central South University of Technology, Hunan Medical University and Changsha Railway Institute. Now Central South University was formed by the merger of three universities in April 2000.

Central South University now covers an area of 3.67 million square meters, with a total construction area of 2.43 million square meters. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 930 million yuan, the library area is 63,000 square meters, the paper library has 4,444,900 volumes, the total number of electronic books is 5200GB, and there are 92 literature databases, basically realizing the full-text digitization of Chinese books and the transformation from traditional libraries to digital libraries.
