Wenshan University (English), abbreviated as Wen Yuan, is located in wenshan city, Yunnan Province. It is an ordinary university in Yunnan Province, founded by Yunnan Provincial Department of Education and Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture People's Government. Wenshan College has been awarded as "Yunnan Civilized Unit" and "Yunnan Civilized School" successively.
Wenshan College, formerly known as National Southwest Normal School, moved from Zhaotong, Yunnan to Wenshan in February 1947. 1984 In April, with the approval of Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Wenshan Teachers College was formally established. Mr. Chu Tunan, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress, wrote the name of the school. 1992, the school was renamed Wenshan Teachers College.
In April 2009, the Ministry of Education approved the upgrade to a full-time undergraduate college. In 20 18, the school passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. In 20 19, Wenshan University became a model school for cultivating applied undergraduate talents in Yunnan Province.
