Old Town of Lijiang, Yunnan is listed in the World Heritage List: 1997 12 Lijiang is located in the upper reaches of Jinsha River in Yunnan, with a long history, beautiful scenery and magnificent natural environment. It is the hometown of Naxi nationality, a descendant of the ancient Qiang people. Old Town of Lijiang, with an altitude of 2,400 meters, is the central city of Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County, one of the famous historical and cultural cities in China and a national key scenic spot. Lijiang was built in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty. Until the early years of the Qing Dynasty, Lijiang was ruled by Mu Tusi, the ancestor of the Naxi nationality under the jurisdiction of the central dynasty (founded in 1382). Lijiang Dayan Town, which is surrounded by mountains and waters, has neither a tall besieged city nor a spacious avenue, but it is simple and picturesque, showing natural harmony everywhere. Because of the terrain and flowing water, the houses in the town are scattered and undulating. People use wood, stone and mud to build beautiful and applicable houses, which are integrated into the traditions of Han, Bai and Tibetan dwellings and form a unique style. The common local houses are "three squares and one wall".

Up to now, there is a hieroglyphic "Dongba" circulating in Lijiang area. This unique script used by Naxi ancestors to record Dongba scriptures is the only living hieroglyph in the world. Today, libraries and museums in China and some European and American countries have collected more than 20,000 Dongba classic ancient books, which have recorded the splendid history and culture of Naxi people for thousands of years. Dongba culture is preserved in Dongba religion in Naxi Nationality Religion, including Dongba characters, Dongba classics, Dongba literature and art, Dongba rituals and so on. Among them, Dongba is known as "the only surviving hieroglyph in the world", with more than 1400 characters. At present, there are more than 20 kinds and 3000 volumes of Dongba classics 120, which are kept in libraries and museums in more than ten countries and regions, including Chinese mainland, Taiwan Province Province, the United States, Britain, France and Germany. There are more than 50 kinds of Dongba dances, and their dance scores are hundreds of years earlier than those in Spain. Dongba painting spectrum is also known as the only painting classic drawn with hieroglyphs in the world, among which Lu Shen is the longest painting. In addition, the myths, epics, medical books, calendars, divination, etc. that it has preserved are precious and have high value and significance.
