Urumqi, referred to as "Urumqi", formerly known as Dihua, is the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, and the political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, educational and transportation center of Xinjiang. An important central city in western China, facing the international business center in Central and Western Asia. The core node city of the Silk Road Economic Belt is also the bridgehead of the second Eurasian Continental Bridge in western China and an important gateway to the west. The city governs seven districts and one county, with a total area of 14000 square kilometers and a built-up area of 4 12.26 square kilometers. At the end of 20 14, the permanent population of the city was 3.53 million, inhabited by 52 ethnic groups including Han, Uygur, Kazak, Hui and Xibo.
