Tips for Borrowing Books from Japanese Libraries
Japanese people love reading very much, and Japanese people who are reading can be seen everywhere on trams and restaurants. According to a survey of 20 1 1, Japanese people read 40 books on average every year, and it can be found that Japanese people actually read a lot in the world. But in Japan, books are surprisingly expensive, so the best way for Japanese who love reading is to borrow books from the library. What is the knowledge of borrowing books from Japanese study abroad libraries? Let me show you!

Overview of the Study Abroad Library of the National Library of Congress of Japan

First of all, give a brief introduction to students who don't know much about this place.

The reason why the National Library of Congress is so special is that it is the only national library affiliated to Congress and the only library in Japan that implements the "submission system" (also known as "legal deposit system" and "acceptance system" in Japanese). The submission system refers to the law that when publishing a publication, each publishing institution or unit with publishing responsibility must submit a certain number of samples to the designated library or publishing institution free of charge. So here, you can find all publications in Japan. Not only that, but also constantly supplement various books issued overseas or various useful research and investigation materials.

[Opening hours]

Monday to Friday: 9: 30 ~19: 00; Saturday: 9: 30 ~ 17: 00

Due to the epidemic situation, although the lottery system from Monday to Friday was cancelled after July 1, the daily flow of people in the venue will still be restricted. 1000 people are not allowed to enter, so friends who need it will try to go in the morning when the venue opens.

In addition, the previous lottery system is still maintained on Saturday, and you need to apply in advance to participate in the lottery. Those who are drawn can only go on Saturday. Details can be found on the home page of the Library of Congress.

[closed day]

Sunday, legal holidays, the beginning and end of the year, and the third Wednesday of each month (the data collection deadline) are all deadlines.

See the picture below for details (the red part is the rest day).

[Library Entry Process]

library card

Although the Library of Congress is open to all, like most libraries in China, it needs a library card to enter. If you want to use or consult the library materials for a long time, you must get their library card (login user).

△ Login user カード, hereinafter referred to as library card.

If you only go for one day and just want to look at open-shelf books, you can apply for a "same-day use". However, since most of the books in the Library of Congress are not put on the open shelves, they are put in the stacks, so the staff need to help you take them out. In addition, remote copying requires a library card, so it is better to set up a "registration and utilization" directly.

Card processing process

First of all, you need to be/kloc-over 0/8 years old to apply for a card (/kloc-students under 0/8 years old need to contact the library in advance. See:

)。 Bring your own identification. If you are an international student, just bring your accommodation card.

The processing time is different from the daily opening hours of the library, so we should pay attention to it.

After putting away the schoolbag, walk to the entrance of the gate, brush it in the induction area of the gate with the book card, and the door will open.

[Book borrowing situation]

Usually, in the library we go to, most books are placed directly on the shelves and can be consulted at will. But the Library of Congress is different. Most of its books are placed in the internal stacks, which are not allowed to enter at will, and only staff can enter. So the way to borrow books here will be different.
